MURDO'S DITCH
At the other side of Tarmstedt
the line crosses this ditch that was built to drain what was thought
to be bog. When all the undergrowth was eventually
cleared it was found instead to be a very choked burn. Murdo
MacDonald, the County Archivist worked with Mike Oliver, as very enthusiastic
volunteers during this time
and both contributed enormouslv
in effort during construction. Murdo's
passion was more
battling against
nature than building
railways and it could be said that our project
gave him plenty of scope.
